Villa Katsura

The project focuses on the careful documentation and modeling of the Katsura
Imperial Villa as a craft of architectural understanding. Through detailed
axonometric drawings, the villa’s interconnected pavilions - Koshoin, Chushoin,
Gakki-no-ma, and Shingoten - are reconstructed to reveal their tatami grid,
spatial rhythms, and sliding partitions.
This analytical modeling translates Katsura’s subtle composition into a precise
visual system, allowing its proportions, sequencing, and material logic to be
studied and re-expressed. The work treats drawing as a form of interpretation,
using measured representation to decode the villa’s architecture.
